Revelations

The crew of the Magellan successfully transfered to their new, improved ship. The small Starfleet armada assumed standard orbit around the borg assimilated planet and scanned for new threats.

Strangely, nothing was found. The borg didn't send any other ships and didn't activate orbital defenses. Mr. Roy, the communications officer, picked up some unusual subspace readings, and Mr. Joshua triangulated its origin on the planet surface. Gathering all their courage, the crew of the USS Magellan A decided to beam down an away team to investigate, while the Ajax and the Thunderstorm covered their backs in orbit.

The brave officers beamed down to a barren deserted area near an abandoned city. There was nothing in the landscape except for a few rocks, some dead animal bones and what appeared to be a rusty and abandoned land transport.

They stood there for a while, when all of a sudden a glowing beam of green light materialized a single borg drone right before their eyes. The drone was just standing there, doing nothing. No hostile actions of any kind. No other sign of the borg was noticed.

After a while the drone started moving slowly, as if he wanted the away team to follow it. They went after the deadly creature inside the abandoned transport, where they found a group of another 10 drones, also non hostile.

They were just staring at the group, as if they wanted to say something. The team located what appeared to be a working console, and had Gizmo examine it. The device was used to enhance telepathic communications among Gizmo's species.

Through the machine, they learned the assimilated members of Gizmo's race were able to retain some of their essence, even after being connected to the Borg Collective. With the help of Gizmo, they told they could severe the ties of the Borg in the planet with the Collective, which would deactivate and kill all of them. That would include Gizmo's assimilated brethren, but they were prepared to make the sacrifice.

More than that, they discovered the group of Borg inside that transport developed individuality and counsciousness after establishing contact with the telepathic aliens, and went rogue, much like Hugh, encountered by the Enterprise D. They were the ones preventing other Borg from attacking the crew of the USS Magellan A. They too would die along with Gizmo's kin and the rest of the Borg.

Not willing to sacrifice counsciouss beings, the Magellan officers decided to beam one of the rogue borgs aboard the ship and try to find a way to disconnect their group and Gizmo's brethren before wiping out the rest of the Borg in the planet.

How will our brave heroes get out of this one? Find out next post.
